"Open" in its emotional form means: intellectual curiosity, aesthetic sensitivity, and unexpected and unconventional ideas - an openness to the experience of life.
Here at Open Home, items are curated and collected for those who are seeking a meaningful and unexpected living space. We know that the items you select for your home and the gifts you select for others should be extraordinary, so we traveled far and wide to select items with stories - items with meaning - just for you.
Open Home is here to make a connection, spark an inspiration, and help tell your story.
Join Mary Schulte and the Open Tribe for tips on thoughtful living, entertaining, and design. Open Home is personal and heartfelt, with just a touch of whimsy. We hope you’ll join our journey as we uncover the origins of ourselves and the things around us, evolve in the face of new challenges, cultivate moments of kindness in our daily lives, and strive to find the beauty in our surroundings.
If you believe that Meaning is the New Luxury, you just might be one of us.
We are Open Home.
Owner - Open Home
Twenty years ago, Mary Schulte was a single mother working to support her family. After successfully climbing the corporate ladder to a place that made her family secure, she re-married and left the corporate world on a journey of self-discovery. Along the way, she unearthed a true eye for design, and a passion for finding true meaning in the things that surround her.
She is guided by the four pillars of her life, Origins (knowing and embracing your roots), Evolution (continuing to learn and grow throughout your life), Civility (being kind and generous to others), and Beauty (surrounding yourself with things that make you truly happy) – these four things bring meaning and value to her life.
Mary has designed several homes, been featured in homes tours and magazines, resided on architectural and design boards, and requests for design direction occur regularly. She hopes to bring her style and thoughtfulness to the forefront of home design and living.
Away from work and her native Kansas City, you can find Mary traveling to find the next best item for Open Home or in Colorado, taking her pups on a hike. She is devoted to her husband and children. Mary is a strong supporter of the arts and sits on the advisory council of the Kansas City Chapter of No Kid Hungry.
